A scottish climbing legend
Gore sponsored athlete Dave MacLeod is a genuine climbing all-rounder. His achievements across the disciplines of traditional, sports, bouldering and winter climber are astounding. Amongst some of his most notable accolades are being the original author of one of the world's hardest traditional routes - Rhapsody E11, tackling the challenging solo route Darwin Dixit (F8c) and becoming the first person to conquer Echo Wall on Ben Nevis, a route that was also eventually classified as E11.
Always one to break new boundaries, in August, Dave participated in an incredible live ascent that was broadcast nonstop in real time on BBC TV. During the 6 hour programme Dave and Tim Emmett climbed the 5 pitch E9 7a completing it just 30 seconds before the end of the scheduled broadcast! The Scottish weather was its usual best and the route ('The Usual Suspects') turned out to be the hardest multipitch mountain route in the UK. Climbers and non-climbers alike sat and watched their progress for the whole afternoon, wondering, as they were, if they would succeed.
The GORE-TEX® brand has sponsored Dave for several years. Having the right kit is essential for him when he climbs and this is why he chooses GORE-TEX® garments as he explains, "wearing the right clothing for the right conditions is really important. When I am climbing, I need to make sure that my body can perform at its best, which means that I need clothing that keeps me dry and maintains my optimum body temperature. GORE-TEX® garments do this by being breathable and waterproof."
Not one to rest on his laurels, Dave has new plans in place for next year and you can find out all about these and keep up to date with his news at www.davemacleod.blogspot.com.
